Announcing Documentbase
The most enjoyable and efficient way to build
and maintain technical documentation.
Today, I’m excited to introduce Documentbase, a high-quality documentation management platform for developers and multidisciplinary teams. It’s the easiest and most efficient way to build and maintain modern documentation without vendor lock-in.
For years, documentation has been seen as a headache for many companies or simply neglected altogether. Yet, just like the product itself, documentation is often the main point of interaction for developers and deserves to be treated with the same level of quality.
Stripe pioneered the idea of developer-first documentation, and in recent years more companies have started treating docs like a product, investing time, care, and attention to detail. But building great documentation takes effort. Many teams end up creating their own frontend systems just to add branding or custom features, making the process costly and complex.
New CMS-like solutions have emerged to simplify this, but they often come with heavy vendor lock-in. Even with GitHub sync, companies remain tied to a hosted platform that controls the overall experience. The truth is, great documentation is not only about content, but also about branding, flexibility, and technical detail, things that should not look the same across every company’s site.

Documentbase changes this. It empowers teams to write, edit, and manage documentation collaboratively thanks to the first native AI collaborative editor while allowing developers to retain full creative control of the frontend.
With Documentbase, you can continue using popular open source frameworks like Fumadocs, Docusaurus, VuePress, or build from scratch with our headless React component toolkit, ensuring your docs reflect your unique brand.
We also provide a self-managed site option, giving you complete customization and all the modern features needed to launch high-quality documentation from day zero.
We’re just getting started, and there’s still a lot to come. Today we’re beginning to invite teams and companies to participate in our private alpha. If you’re interested in getting involved early and influencing the direction of Documentbase, sign up here and follow us on X (Twitter).
